The trust exists to raise funds towards the preservation, repair, maintenance, improvement and overall upkeep of the St John the Baptist Church.

The trust is independent of general church funds. However its existence is promoted in the church’s publicity.

In furtherance of its aims, the trust has raised over £100,000 since its inception in 1992. All of this has come from individual donations and special fundraising activities in Westbourne.

To date, about £80,000 has been spent on various projects. The largest item, which prompted the creation of the Trust, was a major overhaul of the tower. Money has also been provided for ongoing repairs of a general nature identified by the 5 yearly church architect’s report. The church authorities take care to ensure that its buildings are regularly inspected, but, of course, meeting the obligations prompted by these regular reports imposes a substantial ongoing financial burden upon the parish.

The Trust fund provides a direct channel towards the maintenance of the church building.
